DWI Driver Ends Up in Readington Homeowners Pool

A Readington Township homeowner woke up to a bizarre surprise one morning last month when they discovered there was a Chevy Camaro partially submerged in there pool. According to nj.com, the homeowners, who reside on Kosciuszko Road, contacted the Readington Township Police Department around 9:30 a.m. to report the incident. When the officers arrived on scene they were able to locate the alleged driver, a fifty-seven year old male, who also happened to reside in the township. It is unclear from the reports whether or not the individual needed to be removed from his vehicle but it was reported that he suffered minor injuries as a result of the incident and that he needed to be transported to the hospital. Prior to being transported, the Readington Township Police Department did place him under arrest, which means that he will be released from the hospital directly into their custody for processing.

What is the Sentence for a DUI in Readington Township?

Based on their observations, the officers decide to charge the individual with driving under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance and reckless driving. It is unknown at this point in time whether or not the individual submitted to a urine test and/or blood draw or whether he placed through the standardized field sobriety tests.  Since these are considered traffic offenses in New Jersey the charges will be transferred to the Readington Municipal Court for disposition. Provided that this is a first offense for the individual, if convicted, he will be facing a seven to twelve month loss of license, imposition of the ignition interlock device for at least six months, 12 hours in the intoxicated drivers resource center, community service as well as fines and fees ranging up to $800.  The penalties for a second or subsequent DWI offense drastically increase regardless of whether or not the priors happened in New Jersey.
